Carl von Clausewitz and Post-Cold War Conflicts

The thesis is dealing with the work of Carl von Clausewitz "Of War". Aim of the thesis is to examine the relevance of Clausewitz's work in modern war. Author of this thesis is analyzing the book "Of War" with regard to context of Clausewitz's life, characteristics of war in Clausewitz's time, nature of conflict in post cold war era, system of international relations after the fall of the eastern bloc and concept of the "New revolution in military affairs". According to the analysis of the book "Of War" is author picking eight propositions, which are characteristic for Clausewitz's thought. These propositions are then empirically applied on three post cold war conflicts - War in Persian Gulf, War in Afghanistan and War in Iraq. From the result of the application is derived the conclusion about the relevance of Clausewitz's work in the post cold war era conflicts. Results of this analysis are set in the context of literature that is dealing with Carl von Clausewitz, his influence on contemporary military affairs and modern war.
